What to Expect

The WFWA Retreat is a craft and networking event. It’s an opportunity to talk about women’s fiction – both the writing and marketing aspects – with like-minded writers in a relaxed atmosphere.

The 2018 retreat will focus on the art of revision, with book coach, author, and creative strategist Jennie Nash. Ms. Nash will be teaching a revision process that will help writers at every stage in their career hone their self-editing skills and learn how to give their manuscripts that extra boost. There will be in-person lessons, plenty of time to execute the revision exercises, and a live review of a handful of participants' before-and-after revisions for an inside peek into how an editor thinks.

There will also be discussion groups on topics chosen by retreat attendees. These informal discussions are facilitated by retreat attendees and are an opportunity for everyone to share experiences, questions, concerns, and ideas.

Dress Code

You won’t need fancy clothes for this event. We’ll be learning, writing, talking—you’ll want to be comfortable. Jeans, khakis, even sweats or yoga pants are fine. Although keep in mind that we’re not the only guests in the hotel, so jammies may not be the most appropriate comfy-writing-clothes choice, unless, of course, you’re writing in your room.

Bring comfortable shoes, especially if you’re planning on a walk to Old Town.

You may want to pack something a bit more festive for the dinners, especially the awards dinner, but nothing in the formal or semi-formal or wanna-be formal range.

Connecting with Retreat Attendees

There is a private Facebook group for each WFWA retreat. It’s a great place to find a roommate, connect with others for sharing rides to and from the hotel, and build the anticipation.
